Chris started playing guitar at 15, only because she was not allowed
to have a drum set. She picked up her sisters guitar at first but then
bought an ovation acoustic after window shopping for months.A year later
Chris had a band and a fender electric guitar. Those were the first of 21
other guitars.
Not having any training Chris began watching other guitarist trying
to pick up bits and pieces. Then Finally began taking music classes to
understand what she was playing. After 3 or 4 teachers she decided to buy
books videos and concert tickets to help better herself.
Her first band at 16 was rock /new wave. They played partys and school
dances. Chris had stage fright so bad she could not remember her parts
at times.
" I remember auditioning for bands and guys laughing at me, needless
to say I was turned downed many times because I did'nt look like I could
Play!"You have to believe in yourself and do not let the opinions of others
influence you in a negative way, smile pretty and watch your back!"
Being a female Lead guitarist was hard, But today Chris is a guitar
instructor at mars music as well as a session musician with a list of projects
under her belt. She has toured opening for artist such as Joan Osbourne,Lisa
Loeb,C.S.N.,Little Feat,Dag,Self,George Clinton ect....
The recording sessions were for many different artist everything from
jazz,R&b,funk,Rock,Alternative and instrumental. She even played the
guitar show with an all female band,"I have been in a few guitar contests
just for fun, I don't think of guitar as a sport or compitetion." the most
important thing to me is to be able to create music, always grow and MOVE
FORWARD!!! Music is art, the picture you paint is your own it is no better
then anyone elses JUST DIFFERENT! "
